LECTURES
What is Double Exposure Photography?
It is refers to merging multiple images. The goal is to make them surreal, emotional, or humorous. They usually feature silhouettes.
Using Tilt-Shift Effect
If you want to be extra creative, blur one of your photos instead of the entire image. Or blur everything except for one important detail.
Create fake reflection
There are many ways to create reflections. One of them is creating a double-exposure with the help of a separate window photo.
Experiment with simple portraits and details textured
Combining something plain with something complicated will give you a balanced result. it will also save a lot of simple photos that you might discard.
Convert your results to Black & White
A lack of color will strengthen the emotions in your double-exposure images. If you want to express your work in a vulnerable way, experiment with this.
Work with silhouette
Many double exposure photographers choose to work with silhouettes. It would give you an opportunity to show very creative sides of yourself.
Pick two random photo
A random process doesn’t mean it’s not meaningful. Shoot interesting textures, shapes and forms instead.
Make simple objects look fascinating
take a photos of everyday objects you usually take for granted. Try to make them loo like something else.
Use shadow
Outlines of any kinds of things are fantastic to work with for double-exposure photography. Shadows are as effective as silhouettes in this genre.
PHOTOSHOP: Blend modes
Working with blend modes is almost always an experimental process. Because it’s nearly impossible to predict the results, you always seem to end up experimenting with different modes and Fill Opacities until you get the results that you’re looking for.
Realism vs Surrealism
Realism
Takes subject matters of the ordinary and common world which we call “reality”. It almost always takes a non-exotic and non-extraordinary subject matter and theme. There is no need to think outside of the box, as that is not “real”.
Surrealism
A twist on Realism. It explores the subconscious mind, with subject matters concentrating on dream-images and often aims to distort the ordinary and what we call reality.
Dadaism
An anti war art movement with art works that is satirical and nonessential in nature.
What is Digital Surrealism?
Surrealism is a cultural movement focused on type of arts to express about the artist’s idea themselves.

Part2-Own Double exposure
Fig 2.6 Elements for own work
I choose a city view picture and a mountain picture for main elements. I was raised in a rural area in Japan and there were a lot of nature things living. Now I came Malaysia and I think here is more developed area compared with my hometown. I want to express my past memories of hometown and my present condition that I’m gradually used to live in urban area. So I placed mountain picture on my face and brain, and city picture is on the body side. I placed them in opposite angle because they are exact opposite things. I set background and overall color to yellow and make a consistency in screen.

PROJECT 2B: CONCEPTUAL PRODUCT PHOTOSHOOT/Week9
Fig 3.1 Reference Mood Boards
First, I researched references for product photoshoot. They are composition of two elements and success in synthesize surface of sections. According to these references, I’m aiming for the natural transition from object to other object.
Fig 3.2 Sketches and photo taken
I took a product photo and made sketches for composition. I was searching for a product that have similar purpose or shapes. Then I need to pay attention to the light and photo angle.
#1: Perrier bottle and red wine glass… Both using in the “drink” action but the shapes are completely different. If I fuse the top of Perrier and bottom of glass, it can’t be drink easily.
#2: Oven Toaster and bread… I was searching for the similar purpose and these two purpose is for bake something and baked by something.
#3: Tissue box and towel… These two mainly use for wipe something. If I unite these two, it become useless because one of the two is enough for use.
#4: Clock and My glasses… I was aiming for both objects related to action “see”. See the time, room temperature, humidity, and overall sight.
#5: Lamp and cream… Personally I’m loving this cream and lamp so I choose them. Both two have yellow/gold color and the top segment of lamp and cream jar shapes are so similar.
Fig 3.3 Select object shapes
I choose sketch#2 for my theme. Select object shapes by using quick select tool.

Fig 3.4 Mask layer
Replace bread layer and make mask layer on the Toaster and adjust details by using a blush tool.
The shadow part is related to the original picture and it made reality on the screen. The transparency is 49% and using blur into the shadow.
Add background and adjust overall colors, transparency, levels, tone curve.
FINAL LAYOUT
Fig 3.7 Baked Oven Toaster (30/11//2023)
DESCRIPTION:
In general, the bread is baked by a toaster and the toaster bakes bread. I want to swap their roles with remaining shapes so I tried to adjust the details. I planned to switch the toaster door to bread in the first sketch but it couldn’t make sense to the viewers that the object is bread. So I changed the plan to leave bread shapes but not break original toaster shapes. The shadow part is related to the original picture and it made reality on the screen. I am satisfied with my final artwork and final plan.
REFLECTIONS
I am really happy for fully express my thought in these submissions. In week7, I was aiming for express myself in some aspects. My almost all memories is raised in the nature and surrounded by natural things. I was not used to living in urban area in the past, but present condition is quite different from then. It is most good idea for me that can express myself in the past and present. In week9, I was stuck in arrange plans for more appropriate form but it was good experience for me that I can change the way to express thought more flexibly. I really love a method of art that the products or things role are different from usual and feel so strange when we saw them. I left some elements that the original toaster have and it works as the “strange” point in this screen.
