REFLECTIONS

Experience... Throughout this module, I got a skills of using Adobe applications. I really wanted to learn these skills but tutorials in Youtube were not helpful for me. Tutorials in this module are teaching basic skill and information step by step. Learning speed is suitable and low stress for me. Also I got a sense for observe font details. I really stuck in adjust kerning, line space and margins for few weeks. It was little traumatized me and I think about kerning in my daily life. When I was trying to make typefaces, I experienced hard font detail adjustment and really considered about how to express their constancy. I thought only shapes in fonts and forgot about white space and gap in fonts. This is the only thing that I feel regret in this module.

Observation... I really like to see other student works and listen their feedback. I always take note when it’s useful for me. Sometimes I draw simple sketch for their work with little explanation. They are so helpful when I stuck in adjustment details and rethink layouts. I tried to make connection with seniors and I got many advice from them. Learning from other people is really important in create designs. Then, my skills for observe details in design are developed in this module. I really missed many times to correct the details in the beginning of the class but I could control myself for point to the right track.

Findings... I was learning design in Japan for 3 years but I couldn’t understand the concept of  “Art for society”. At that time, I thought art is made for one’s satisfaction and it is not for someone’s satisfaction. However Typography is based on someone’s comfort and convenience. Manage the space between lines, kerning letters, arrange font size that can be easily to read in screen/print size... all of them are take care of others. I really feel hard to answer how to use my passion for society in the past but after taking typography, I could found how designs in society works and what should I create in the future.

The basic storyline is come from Yong. The main characters are three. Father(protagonist), Mother, and daughter.
