In this exercise, we given one muted video from “Everything, Everywhere, All at once”. The character dialogue was already placed. We need to search sound effects online and record three character dialogue by ourselves.

WEEK4

Fig 3.2 Spreadsheet before start audio editing, Week4 (15/5/2024)

Before start audio editing, we made team spreadsheet for analyse what sound appears in what time. Also we analyse whose dialogue and what ambience sound appear in each timeline. After working as a team, I edited sentences a little bit for suit sound expression.

Fig 3.3 Editing audio, Week4 (17/5/2024)

I get sound  from online and edit them for muted video. I set audio1-3 for character dialogue, audio4-6 for sound effects, and audio 7-9 for ambience sounds. It is for avoid lost audio in the screen.

Fig 3.4 Adjust volume, Week4 (17/5/2024)

The dialogue volume is between -6dB and -12dB, hard sound effects volume is depends on the scene, and ambience sounds volume is below -20dB.

FINAL AUDIO DUBBING

Fig 3.5 Final Audio Dubbing, Week4 (18/5/2024)

Week4 asynchronous class materials are for understand the structure of production stages in filmmaking. The main process are pre-production, production, and post-production. Each of them are having important roles, but I thought the pre-production is most important because it prepare all things before start production, and if this stage is not working, the film is not proceeds.

In this exercise, I took my own voice for 5 seconds and edit it in 5 modes below:

1. Voice of Phone call
2. Voice coming from inside of closet
3. Voice of toilet/bathroom
4. Underground Cave
5. Alien/Orc voice

Fig 4.2 Working Process screen grab, Week9 (20/6/2024)

Mr. Martin gave us step-by-step workflow for several modes, so I need to search sweet place for get proper sound in Adobe Audition. My favourite is the voice in underground cave because I paid attention for reflect of the voice as big cave.

FEEDBACK

Week3 (8/5/2024)
General Feedback.. The close up shot is focus on the facial expression, so you need to compare MCU(Medium Close Up) shot and Close up shot. O.S shot is focusing foreground person’s point of view.

Week4 (15/5/2024)
General Feedback... You cannot add music in audio dubbing exercise. Just focus on the dialog and sounds.

REFLECTIONS

In audio dubbing project, I am so struggle with record voice to fit in the video. I look at the dialog given by Mr. Martin and video at the same time for check the character’s mouth movement, however it is really hard to get perfect timing. When I searching sound effect for each scenes, I feel like I’m hunting the treasure from large ocean. For example, when I try to get “grip the mop” sound, I searched for leather stress sound because it will sounds like people grip something in strong power. That process is my favourite. Also I was particular about the scene change sound. In animation, sometimes there are scene change sounds like wind or something, so I use it for scene change. I think they are work as separate scene and also realistic like actual movie.
