In this exercise, students requires to draw the skull from 7 angles. I could learn the shape of human skull in here.

Fig 2.2 Female pose study, Week3 (12/10/2024)

Fig 2.3 Male pose study, Week3 (12/10/2024)

In this exercise, we use box to get the simple shape and it could make the movement easily. Also we can see the difference between female and male anatomy in this simple form.

Fig 2.4 ZBrush working screen, Week3 (12/10/2024)

In this week, I start the sculpting in ZBrush. I have a several problem with this software because currently I'm using Mac and it keeps crushing in the downloading process. I asked my classmate to solve this problem.

Fig 2.5 Full-body anatomy, Week4 (20/10/2024)

In this week, I start thinking about the anatomy of my character. My character will be the female, so I refer the art book in the shared file to see female muscle. In the feedback session, Mr. Kannan advised me that the bone part of my character is unnecessary, so I remove it later.

Fig 2.6-8 ZBrush working screen, Week4 (19/10/2024)

I start to make the basic body in ZBrush. I refer the example that Mr. Kannan showed us in the class. However, I couldn't make the human-like shape yet.

Fig 2.9 ZBrush working screen, Week5 (26/10/2024)

In this week, I still struggle with the body and face. The face is the biggest problem for me, and I asked my classmate to give me an advice. Also I couldn't used to the settings of ZBrush and make a lot of mistake in saving files.

Fig 2.10 Character design draft, Week5 (27/10/2024)

My character will be the female character, who works in the lab. She is the scientist and she use her body as her experimental subject, so she has a long bone tail. I made a draft with bangs and without bangs because it will affect the character's design a lot.

In the later feedback session, Mr. Kannan advised me that her pumps and bone tail will be the problem in sculpting part, so I remove them. And her face and anatomy is lacking feminine elements, so I need to fix these points.

Fig 2.11 Final Character design, Week6 (3/11/2024)

From last week's feedback session, I change some parts to improve my character design. The pose is too straight in the previous design, so I change it into more dynamic pose. I added the feminine facial expression to my character.

Fig 2.12 Working screen in each facial parts

I try to sculpt each facial parts individually because I have no confidence for sculpting in one layer. There are a lot of lecture videos in youtube, so I could learn the facial parts one by one from them. After sculpting each parts, I use "Dynamesh" to combine them to the base face.

Fig 2.13-16 Four angles of 3D model, Week8 (14/11/2024)

In Week7 and Week8, I refer to the lecture video in the youtube to get more proper anatomy of human. I feel I can get better shape from previous attempt, but still struggling with the face part. I try many ways to get proper human face shape, but the one length of any part is wrong, it makes huge uncomfortable feeling for viewer. I need to get over this problem.

Fig 2.17-20 Human anatomy studies, Week9 (23/11/2024)

In hand and foot studies, I refer to my body images taken by myself. It is because I couldn't find proper image from internet, and I feel I need to challenge the difficult angle of human body parts. In the muscle and skeleton studies, I refer to the art book that Mr. Kannan shared in the Teams files.

Fig 2.21-23 Human anatomy studies, Week9 (22/11/2024)

I finished basic shape of my character in this week. I feel it gets better from last week's progress. The body is little bit unbalanced in here, so it would be the improvement of this model. I showed it for my classmate and my classmate said the hand is too big for her body. I could fix it by my classmate's advice.

Fig 2.23 Hand sculpting, Week9 (22/11/2024)

When I sculpt character hands, it takes a lot of time because I couldn't use some tools to get finger shape. I search a lot of tutorial in youtube and refer them as my reference.

Fig 2.24-25 Braid sculpting, Week10 (1/12/2024)

In terms of sculpting hairs, the biggest problem is this braid. I used Zsphere mode to make this shape. After done all sculpt in here, I export this project as a tool and combine with the full-body project. I will share the tutorial video founded in youtube for myself and my juniors.

Fig 2.26 Turnaround screen grab, Week10 (1/12/2024)

From last week progress, I made hair sculpt and adjust the whole body parts. I still having problem with the hands and hip shape in here.

Fig 2.27 Topology brush for shirts sculpt, Week11 (8/12/2024)

To sculpt shirts for my character, I use topology brush. I'm not exactly understanding how it works in the screen, but it gives a ideal shape for my character.

Fig 2.28 Turnaround screen grab, Week12 (13/12/2024)

In this week, I can get almost all clothes for my character. The jeans and white gown took a lot of time in here. The most favourite shape is the button on the shirts and the some details on jeans.

Fig 2.29 Turnaround screen grab, Week13 (18/12/2024)

I couldn't reach the shoes part because I still having a problem with the foot of my character. After fixing all that, I could proceed the shoes sculpting. For the details of the shoes, I used the fastener tool in ZBrush to save my time. It is very easy to use and also give us perfect shape.

FEEDBACK

Week1 (25/9/2024)
General Feedback... Zbrush is app for sculpting and it is for people who are familiar with. For week1 exercise, draw a object from every angles in digital painting app. Practice your drawing in few steps. Practice line weight on paper and digital. Apply it for subject that human made(mouse, cup, camera, etc.).

Week4 (16/10/2024)
General Feedback... For the character design of this module requires the full-body and its anatomy. You should draw the muscles as well as you can. Please study the muscles.

Week5 (23/10/2024)
Specific Feedback... The hip joints need a certain amount of clearance to be movable, so I'm going to open up the space a little bit. If you start drawing all the muscles, there's no end to it, so keep it simple. Don't start with the frontal view of your character. Fix the proportions. When you check your body, see how far you can bend and how far you can twist. Analyse what percentage of your body rotates when you twist your hips. It is good to observe poses with large movements. Hand movements are also important.

Week6 (30/10/2024)
Specific Feedback... Fix the feet. Make facial features more crisp and easy to dig into.
Take a picture of yourself and have same pose with the character. Make the character's face a little more feminine. Stop let your character wearing pumps.

Week7 (6/11/2024)
Specific Feedback... Fix the hands. The thickness of your character's ear is not enough.

Week9 (20/11/2024)
Specific Feedback... Raise arms more to get A pose. Cut off the nose because it is too long now. Connect the collarbone to the neck. Make the landmarks clearer.
Make the knees and other parts of the body more convex.

Week10 (27/11/2024)
General Feedback... Please do the sketch of the whole body skeleton and whole body muscles. Sculpt of feet can be left as simple as possible. Posture can be taken from the character design. Texture should be done last.

Week11 (4/12/2024)
Specific Feedback... Fix proportions of hands and hips. Make the hands a little more curved (it is too straight now). Need more thickness in the jacket.

Week13 (18/12/2024)
Specific Feedback... Proportions are too masculine, increase feminine features
Hands are too long. Draw the arms a little more.

REFLECTIONS

In this module, I could learn a lot of things. I really want to learn sculpting, but I couldn't find the way to practice constantly. I could learn the basic knowledge of human anatomy and how to put these knowledge in actual sculpting process. And this module let me think about my skills of designing and the skills of managing the task. I couldn't manage the time schedule well in this semester because I need to push myself to the best condition for all core modules. I didn't get sick in this semester, however, my task schedule was completely broken. I need to take balance of every task in next semester.
